Abbotsford, BC — Goalie Atte Engren stopped 24 shots in his first appearance of the season and Victor Bartley scored the game winning goal on a power play to give the Milwaukee Admirals a 3-1 victory over the Abbotsford Heat Saturday night in Abbotsford BC.

Engren saved his strongest play for the third period when he turned aside 12 Heat shots to earn his first win and move the Admirals to 4-0-0-1 (9 points, first place Midwest Division).

The win extended Milwaukee’s AHL record of consecutive games without a regulation loss on the road to 20. The last regulation loss for the Admirals took place Jan. 13, 2011 at Manitoba (3-0).

Abbotsford took the lead at 10:49 of the second period on a Clay Wilson power play goal. Heat forward Greg Nemisz carried the puck from the left to the right of the slot. He drew a defender then slid a pass to the left post for a Wilson tap-in with just one second remaining in a penalty to Milwaukee’s Ryan Flynn.

Head coach Kirk Muller jumbled the lines in the third period to get some offense. Less than a minute into the third, the move paid off as Michael Latta scored by redirecting of a Kyle Wilson shot. The goal, at 57 seconds of the third period, was Latta’s second of the season.

The Admirals took a 2-1 lead at 8:52 of the third period with the team’s first power play goal on the road. Latta moved the puck from the left circle to Taylor Aronson. Aronson tapped a pass to the right circle where Victor Bartley hammered his first goal of the season through the legs of Heat goalie Leland Irving. The goal snapped a 0-13 power play streak on the road.

Milwaukee capped the scoring at 9:28 of the third period. Mark Van Guilder passed the puck from the right half-wall to Flynn in the corner. Flynn skated to the net and put a shot on goal. Irving made the stop, but Taylor Beck slapped in his second goal of the year before the goalie could get his glove on the puck. The goal was Beck’s second of the season.
