Dish Network and Fox Sports leave Predators fans blacked out

FSTennessee

Disputes between Dish Network and News Corp look to leave Predators fans in the dark for Saturday’s home opener.

Anyone familiar with satellite television remembers the issues between Versus (Comcast) and DirecTV.  Contract negotiations are a natural part of the process; broadcasters want more money, satellite companies don’t want to pay it, and bickering ensues.  However, this will hit home with Predators fans on Dish, as the 60 games that will be broadcast (in HD!) will not be available until both parties decide to play nice.

Think Center Ice or GameCenter Live will be an option? I’m afraid to inform you that blackouts will still apply.

On October 1st, Dish Network subscribers might have noticed the following stations no longer available:

  • FOX Sports Arizona
  • FOX Sports Carolinas
  • FOX Sports Detroit
  • FOX Sports Florida
  • FOX Sports Houston
  • FOX Sports Indiana
  • FOX Sports Kansas City
  • FOX Sports Midwest
  • FOX Sports North
  • FOX Sports Ohio
  • FOX Sports Oklahoma
  • FOX Sports Southwest
  • FOX Sports South
  • FOX Sports Tennessee
  • FOX Sports West
  • FOX Sports Wisconsin
  • Prime Ticket
  • SportSouth
  • Sun Sports

Now, I’m not trying to sound the alarm, and say you should immediately switch to another provider (ahem, DirecTV), but it’s something to be aware of.  I would hate nothing more than to check Twitter and see @PredFans blowing up over Dish subscribers not knowing where the game is.  Versus was a drop in the bucket compared to this, as Predators fans would have missed one Nashville game.  FSTennessee handles sixty broadcasts, that’s a lot of hockey Dish viewers will miss out on.

Fox Sports reached out to us, and offered the website GetWhatIPaidFor.com in order to hear Fox’s side of the story.

I hope to see many of you Saturday at Bridgestone Arena, the Predators have many great events planned for the season opener.  If you still need tickets to Saturday’s game or have questions about DirecTV service, email me and I’ve got a great offer for you.  Hockey season has arrived in Smashville, folks.. and man it feels good.

Update 1: The Nashville Predators have posted an update on this situation, and it doesn’t look good for Dish subscribers.

I have DISH and called them about an hour after the FSN channels disappeared. I was pretty sure that it was coming and I was prepared for what I wanted to say. Those twenty “free” channels that we are getting were already in my sports package and I am 15 or so channels short of what I pay for. They seemed really astonished that I had already figured that out an hour into the blackout. They did promise me a credit ($7) for my sports package if there is no settlement before the next billing cycle. No answers about the Center Ice channels that are FSN, but I told them I would be calling again and wanting my $169 + tax back if they or FSN blocked anything but the local blacked out channels. We have discussed changing to DirecTV or Comcast at our house, but I have a feeling that if we do make a change, we might have to deal with the same problem all over next year with another carrier.

You’re right Lisa, you never know what these companies will do. I had to deal with Versus on DirecTV last year.. it’s annoying more than anything. Hopefully something works out soon.

Or you can stream them in the meantime and put them on the tv screen w/ a VGA to TV Converter S-Video 3 RCA AV Out Cable Adapter Converter for PC Laptop. Works best for a non-HD set but for the price… and good for streaming Netflix for the kids too!!

I’ll admit, I am technically challenged. Steve, do you have a link to a “a VGA to TV Converter S-Video 3 RCA AV Out Cable Adapter Converter for PC Laptop”? I have been wanting to hook my older laptop to an older flat screen for some time, but had no clue as to how to do it.

I’m sorry, but It seems strange that FOX is blaming Dish when Fox has had this same problem with 2 other vable companies in the last year!! Someone’s gotta stand up to them and I’m glad Dish is willing to do it.

It all started with the greedy sports players, owners etc. Its a shame if your local sports team goes to the playoffs and you cant see it on your local T V channel,
Fox has to charge dish and dish has to charge his customer.
