Don't Miss

Guelph’s season over, expect Latta and Beck to join Admirals…

Taylor Beck and Michael Latta were drafted together, played together and, come early this week, they’ll be joining professional hockey together.

The Nashville Predators prospects saw their OHL seasons come to an end on Sunday night when their Guelph Storm lost to the Saginaw Spirit, 6-5. The Storm lost their first round series, four games to two despite Latta bagging a hat trick in the elimination game.

Both players are expected to join the Milwaukee Admirals as early as this week.

Beck, Nashville’s third round pick (70th overall) in 2009, led the Storm in points with 98 points. Latta (selected two picks later) followed right behind with 89. Both players were among the top 10 in OHL scoring.

While both players are finishers, Latta finished the first round of the playoffs with five goals and five assists in just six games. Beck’s statline read three goals, five assists for eight points.

As far as their OHL careers go, Beck finishes fourth on Guelph’s all-time scoring list with 267 points over his four seasons with the Storm. Furthermore, he’s also 6th in goal scoring with 110. Latta, who started his career with the Ottawa 67’s, still managed to take #15 on the franchise’s all-time list. Pretty impressive considering he played one and half seasons elsewhere.

Milwaukee has already added another Predators draft pick in Austin Watson. Watson, the 2010 first round pick of General Manager David Poile and company, signed his entry level contract last week and has already played two games at the AHL level.

2009 first round pick Ryan Ellis and the Windsor Spitfires will play Game 7 of their first round series against the Erie Otters on Tuesday night.
