Lindback Shakes the Rust Off in Milwaukee

From the Milwaukee Admirals:

Grant Lewis recorded a three point night and five different Admirals scored to push Milwaukee to a 6-1 win at Oklahoma City Wednesday night.

The win increased first-place Milwaukee’s lead in the West Division to four points over second-place.

Lewis scored his second and third goals of the season and added an assist on a Gabriel Bourque goal for a personal season-high in goals and points.

Oklahoma City took an early 1-0 lead as the Barons pinched from the points to hold the puck in Milwaukee’s zone. The puck finally came to Milan Kytnar in the slot who fired a wrister past Admirals goalie Anders Lindback at 1:29 of the first period.

Milwaukee tied the game with a power play goal at 5:01. Milwaukee won the offensive zone faceoff with Lewis feeding Roman Josi for a slapshot. Josi’s shot went wide of the right post but bounced off the endboards to Gabriel Bourque for the putback. The goal was Bourque’s tenth of the season and first on the power play.

Milwaukee took the lead with just 58 seconds left in the first period with another power play goal, this time from Lewis. Matt Halischuk fed the puck from the left wing to Lewis in the slot. Lewis’ wrist shot went under the extended right leg of goalie Martin Gerber for his second goal of the season and first on the power play. Halischuk and Josi recorded the helpers.

With just 4.7 seconds left in the first period, Ryan Flynn scored his third goal of the season to give the Admirals a 3-1 lead. Standing behind the goal line, Flynn thought about wrapping the puck to the other post, Instead, he flipped the puck off the back of Gerber and the puck caromed into the net. Mike Bartlett and Bourque notched the assists.

Milwaukee extended the lead to three goals when Ryan Thang slapped a loose puck from the left post past Gerber at 9:16 of the second period. Blake Geoffrion and Aaron Johnson recorded the assists. Thang’s ninth goal of the season sent Gerber to the bench in favor of backup goalie Jeff Deslauriers.

Lewis scored his second goal of the game with a breakaway goal at 13:59 of the second period. The Admirals killed off two penalties and Lewis came out of the penalty box. Kelsey Wilson found Lewis slipping past the Barons defense and flipped a pass to the defenseman who slid the puck under the left leg of Deslauriers.

Andreas Thuresson scored his eighth goal of the season with 3:42 to play in the second period. He carried the puck out of the Admirals zone then fired a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Deslauriers, just under the crossbar. The goal made the score 6-1 for Milwaukee. Assists were awarded to Thang and Geoffrion.

Admirals goalie Anders Lindback stopped 32 of 33 shots for his second straight win.

Lindback moves his record with Milwaukee to 2-0 with a .926 save percentage and a 2.51 GAA
