LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS: Weber, Rinne earn All-Star honors…

As it turns out, the Nashville Predators weren’t completely shutout during Wednesday’s NHL Awards. Team captain Shea Weber was named a first-team All-Star by the league while Pekka Rinne was named to the second team.

Weber received the most first place votes among defensemen with 67. He would end up with 445 points, just 19 points shy of Nicklas Lidstrom‘s top score of 464. Lidstrom, coincidentally, was Weber’s defense partner in the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kinda weird how that turned out, eh?

While the Vezina Trophy-winning Tim Thomas ran away with first-team All-Star honors (536 points), Rinne took second among goaltenders with 270 (15 first place votes, 57 second place and 24 third place). And just as Thomas was dominant over the next best man, Rinne was as well. Fellow Vezina finalist Roberto Luongo finished in third with just 118.

Not to be left out of the mix, Weber’s defense partner in Music City, Ryan Suter, earned two second place votes and five third place votes, notching him in 10th place.
