REPORT: Preds kick off Trade Deadline Day with… Devan Dubnyk to Habs

According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, the Nashville Predators have traded recently-waived goaltender Devan Dubnyk to the Montreal Canadiens for future considerations.

LeBrun goes onto report that the Preds will eat some of Dubnyk’s salary as part of the deal.

More to come on this but it’s certainly interesting when the Habs could have just claimed him off waivers two days ago. Either way, the goalie they got from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Matt Hendricks in January is no longer a part of the organization.

Dubnyk started two games for the Preds, going 0-1-1.

Can someone explain what is meant by “for future considerations” for those of us not quite so well versed in the lingo of NHL contracts?

So essentially we ate a good chunk of money and traded Hendricks for two poor games out of this guy and “future considerations”?
