Unless something absolutely shocking happens on June 30, Portland Winterhawks defenseman Seth Jones will be the first selection taken in the 2013 NHL Draft. With talented forwards like Matt Duchene, Ryan O’Reilly and Gabriel Landeskog, the Colorado Avalanche need a young stud to build their blueline around. And with the first overall pick, Jones would give them just that.
The son of former NBA player “Popeye” Jones led the Winterhawks to the WHL Championship and a second place finish in the Memorial Cup this past season and was an alternate captain on Team USA’s gold medal winning squad at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia.
