Admirals – er, I mean Preds – sign Jamie Lundmark…

The Nashville Predators have announced a “depth move” (their words) as they’ve signed veteran center Jamie Lundmark to a one-year, two-way contract.

The deal states that Lundmark will make $600,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level.

Lundmark is a former first round pick (ninth overall) of the New York Rangers in 1999 and has spent the majority of his career in the American Hockey League.

The 29-year old Edmonton, Alberta native has worn more than his share of jerseys in his professional career. Since being drafted, the NHL sweaters in his closet are the Rangers, the Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Los Angeles Kings, the Calgary Flames again and the Toronto Maple Leafs. But it doesn’t end there. After being drafted, he played one season for the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL. Going back to his professional career though, the AHL jerseys in his closet are the San Antonio Rampage, the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Lake Erie Monsters, the Quad Cty Flames and the Abbotsford Heat.

(In case you’re wondering, yes, Lundmark and another recent Preds signee Brett Palin were teammates in Quad City and Abbotsford).

Oh, and we forgot to mention the international jerseys in his wardrobe. During the NHL lockout in 2004-05, Lundmark played in Italy for the HC Interspar Bolzano-Bozen Foxes and then, in 2007, started the hockey season with HC Dynamo Moscow in Russia before returning to North America when he signed with Lake Erie.

Lundmark has played at least 32 games at the AHL level in each of the past three seasons so it’s safe to say (especially because he’s a center) that he’ll be spending the majority of the year in Milwaukee.

The good news for Admirals fans, however, is he did score 52 points in 54 games for Quad City just two years ago, good for third on the team despite the two skaters above him playing in at least 75 contests.

His best NHL campaign was when he was acquired by the Calgary Flames back in 2005-06. He played in 12 games for the Flames and amassed 10 points. A nearly point-per-game clip for a career AHLer isn’t bad. Some thought he’d finally found his niche in the National Hockey League. Unfortunately, Lundmark went back to his disappointing self, scoring just four points in 39 games with Calgary before being dealt to the Los Angeles Kings.

His most recent NHL stint was with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. He tallied three points in 15 games wearing a Leafs sweater.

Fun fact: his next point in the NHL will be the 100th of his career.
