Ryan Thang scored two goals and Jeremy Smith made 22 saves to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 4-1 win over the Peoria Rivermen tonight in the coaching debut for Admirals head coach Kirk Muller.

Milwaukee had seven different players find the scoresheet, led by Thang and center Michael Latta, who tallied a goal and an assist.

However, Peoria got on the board first with a power-play goal from Brett Sterling at 9:06 of the first period.  Rivermen defenseman Danny Syvret fired a shot from the right point that Sterling was able to deflect it by Smith.

Latta tied the score from Milwaukee at 15:45 when he was hooked from behind on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot. Latta carried the puck in on Peoria netminder Jake Allen, pulled him out of position and slide the puck five-hole and just inside the left post.

With just 1:04 left in the period Thang gave the Admirals a 2-1 lead with a rebound goal. Defenseman Victor Bartley fired a shot from the high slot that clinked off the right posted and caromed right to Thang, who had an empty net.

The Admirals outshot Peoria 10-8 in the second period, but neither team found the back of the net during the middle stanza.

The Finnish Connection of Juuso Puustinen and Jani Lajunen combined to give the Admirals a 3-1 lead at 7:24 of the third. Lajunen picked the puck up in the neutral zone, turned on the jets to blow past defenseman Mark Cundari and then spun 180 degrees before putting the puck on Puustinen’s tape and he fired a wrister over the glove of Allen.

Thang finished the scoring with an empty netter with 1:30 to go for his second tally of the night. Mark Van Guilder and Latta assisted on the play.
