Sometimes everything just goes your way.
That was certainly the case for Nashville Predators forward Eric Nystrom on Friday. Against the club that drafted him in the first round of the 2002 NHL Draft, Nystrom bagged all four Preds goals in the 5-4 shootout loss.
He opened the scoring in the first period with this nice move.
In the middle frame, he capitalized on a Roman Josi dump-in that skipped on its way to the Flames net for his second tally.
Later in the second, Paul Gaustad fired a shot toward the net while Nystrom provided the screen. Gaustad was originally credited with the goal but, in the middle of the second intermission, the official scorers determined that the puck hit Nystrom en route to the net. The goal would give him his first career hat trick.
Midway through the third, the legend would grow as Nystrom would bury his fourth of the night, becoming the first Predators player in the 15 year history of the franchise to register four goals in a single game.
Due to two power play markers late in the contest, Nashville would need all four of Nystrom’s goals as they lost in the shootout.
