Predators Breaking News

The Nashville Predators have officially signed Boston University Terriers captain Garrett Noonan to two-year entry level deal and Calgary Hitmen captain Jaynen Rissling to a three-year ELC.

Rissling’s rights were recently acquired from the Washington Capitals, the team who chose him in the seventh round of the 2012 NHL Draft.

Noonan broke the news of his signing a few days ago using his Twitter account.

Also today, the Milwaukee Admirals announced that both Rissling and Noonan have been signed to amateur try-out agreements for the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs. That official press release is below.

Milwaukee, WI—The Milwaukee Admirals announced today that they have signed defensemen Garrett Noonan and Jaynen Rissling to amateur try-out contracts (ATO).

Noonan spent the past four seasons at Boston University, amassing 81 points (30g-51a) and 271 penalty minutes in 145 games. On Saturday, the Norfolk, Mass., native was named the Terriers’ most valuable player for the 2013-14 season; he served as team captain and tied for ninth among Hockey East defensemen in points (4g-16a-20pts) as a senior, his third consecutive season ranking among the conference’s Top 10 blueliners in the category. The 6-1, 205-pounder also tied for first in the nation among defensemen in goals (16) and power-play goals (8) during his sophomore season at BU in 2011-12, en route to Second-Team Hockey East All-Star honors.

Nashville’s fourth choice, 112th overall (fourth round), in the 2011 Entry Draft, Noonan helped the Vernon Vipers capture the 2010 RBC Cup, Doyle Cup and Fred Page Cup in his lone junior season. He is on Twitter @GarrettNoonan13.

Rissling recently completed his fifth season with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League, posting 37 points (8g-29a) and 105 penalty minutes in 54 games while serving as team captain. In 273 WHL games from 2009-14, the 6-4, 204-pound native of Edmonton, Alta., amassed 117 points (23g-94a) and 465 penalty minutes, helping the Hitmen claim the WHL title and participate in the Memorial Cup in 2010.

Washington’s ninth choice, 197th overall (seventh round) in the 2012 Entry Draft, Rissling was acquired from the Capitals in exchange for Nashville’s seventh-round selection in the 2014 Entry Draft on Saturday.
