Peoria, IL— Goalie Jeremy Smith stopped 34 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 3-0 win over the Peoria Rivermen Saturday night in Peoria, IL.
Smith recorded his second win of the season and his eighth career shutout with 10 saves in each of the first two periods and 14 in the third. The Admirals penalty kill held Peoria scoreless on six tries.
The win also came against former Admirals captain Scott Ford and former Admirals coach Dave Allison.
Milwaukee got on the board first when defenseman Mike Moore scored his first goal as an Admiral. With both teams serving a penalty, Moore received a pass from Michael Latta and skated into the slot in front of Rivermen goalie Jake Allen. As Moore tried to shoot, his stick was lifted by backchecking forward Jaden Schwartz of Peoria. The Admirals captain stayed with the play and fired a shot past Allen at 15:09 of the first period.
The Admirals stretched the lead to two when Latta recorded his second assist of the night. Latta knocked down a clearing attempt on the right wing boards in the Peoria zone and fed a pass to Mark Van Guilder in the slot. Van Guilder’s quick shot found the back of the net for his third goal of the season just 30 seconds into the second period.
Chris Mueller added an empty-net, shorthanded goal with 2:09 remaining. Scott Valentine recorded the assist.
Milwaukee’s next game is Wednesday morning at Grand Rapids. The puck will drop at 10 am CDT.
