Canada survives late Slovakian surge, will meet Team USA…

Canada’s domination of the Slovakians for 53 minutes set the stage for a rematch with Team USA. The final seven minutes of the game, however, was a different story.
The host team downed the surprising Slovakians 3-2 on Friday night to advance to Sunday’s Gold Medal Game.
Slovakia was down 3-0 late in the third period but managed to get one behind Roberto Luongo and then woke up. They scored a second goal in the waining moments of regulation and then, as if they needed any more torture, oft-injured Vancouver Canucks forward Pavol Demitra lifted the puck over his diving NHL teammate Luongo for the game-tying goal… but hit the post.
Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators contributed to the win with an assist, a plus-1 rating and several huge hits. He now has one point in all six of Team Canada’s games.
The section303.com Gold Medal Game Viewing Party will now be better than expected as both North American countires will battle it out to win international hockey’s ultimate prize. We’ll see you at Bleachers in Franklin at 1:30pm tomorrow.
