Preds knock off Capitals in 2011 Baltimore Hockey Classic…
- Updated: September 20, 2011
The Nashville Predators have now played three times in the past 36 hours. In that span, they’re 2-1-0.
After splitting the double header with the Florida Panthers on Monday afternoon and night, the Preds upset the Washington Capitals, 2-0, in Baltimore, Maryland at the 2011 Baltimore Hockey Classic.
Head Coach Barry Trotz’s first professional head coaching gig was in that same building when he served as the bench boss to the Baltimore Skipjacks back in 1992-93.
The Predators got another goal from Colin Wilson (he had one yesterday), two helpers from free agent signee Niclas Bergfors and the game-winner from late substitution Chris Mueller. Mueller was only in the game because Blake Geoffrion was a late scratch.
Pekka Rinne did start the contest for the Predators while Michal Neuvirth started between the pipes for Washington. Rinne would turn aside all six shots he faced before giving way to Jeremy Smith who kept the shutout intact by making 13 saves. Neuvirth went the distance for the Capitals, collecting 13 saves on 15 Nashville shots.
